But anyways lets get right into it.

I'd like to start with the Women.
What a tournament for Francesca Schiavone. She really brought her all court game and just over matched the favored Stosur in the final. I thought that since Schiavone's semifinal Dementieva had retired after a set that Schiavone might not be ready for a major final since she had never been past the quarterfinals of a slam before, but she kept it together. I felt as though Stosur would be able to turn it up at some point, and she did have a chance early in the second set, but Schiavone stayed tough throughout and proved that she deserved a Grand Slam Title.

Seeing Schiavone's winning moment had to put a smile on everyone's face watching (except maybe for Australians). I mean seeing a player late in their career, many thought to be past her prime, to prove everyone wrong and surprise almost everyone (including herself) that she could win a Grand Slam title. Seeing pure joy in someones face like that is really heartwarming and really shows that with belief and determination, anyone can achieve their dreams.

As for Stosur, I am sure we would have seen the same pure joy from her if she won, but I feel as if Schiavone is more emotional and really allowed everyone watching to see and understand how she felt. I do believe also that Stosur will have other chances to make deep runs in slams whereas if Schiavone had not won this and succumbed to nerves she may have never been able to recover and everyone would just think that this run was a fluke. So Congratulations to Francesca Schiavone, you really deserved it with the way you played and you deserve to enjoy the moment.

Now for the men:

Yet again Rafael Nadal reigned supreme as the King of Clay at Roland Garros for the fifth time. Many thought that if Robin Soderling could beat Rafa last year, he should have a legitimate chance to beat him this year. And really he did, especially after his dismantling of Roger Federer in the quarterfinals, he was a definite potential winner of the tournament. But as Rafa has done time and time again, he showed why he is the best on clay and after all the chased ball and crazy spins, he lifted his 5th trophy at the French Open.

For Soderling, if you can beat Rafa and Roger in consecutive years at a Grand Slam, and make the final of that Grand Slam both years, you obviously have some talent and sooner or later, your turn to lift the trophy at a Grand Slam will come, you just can't get too down about this, because nobody could have beat Rafa last Sunday on Court Phillipe Chatrier, because he really is the best in the world.

There's not much more to write about the mens side of things because I felt like it was a little more clearcut whereas the womens side was chalkfull of upsets. This all really makes me look forward even more to Wimbledon. A few questions to ponder until Wimbledon:

Can Rafael Nadal complete the French-Wimbledon double again? Can the Williams sisters go from lackluster performances at the French to the final at Wimbledon yet again? How will Schiavone do now with the pressure of being a Grand Slam champion? Will Justine fulfill her Grand Slam resume? How will Kim Clijsters do after missing the claycourt season? Will Andy Roddick do it one better this year and finally get the elusive Wimbledon title?

Enough questions, I hope to blog again sometime in the next week about the grass court tune up tournaments and at sometime do a Wimbledon preview blog.

Thank you for reading,

-Tennis_Mundo-

Begining

Hi and welcome to my blog.
